energetic: Cycling

It’s not all about fast pace and strenuous climbs...

Cycling is a great way to see the countryside, get close to nature and local culture as well as being an enjoyable form of exercise. But don’t worry if your fitness levels aren’t as good as they might be, it’s not all about fast pace and strenuous climbs. There is a gentler side to cycling too, where the pace is more sedate, the terrain less demanding and your bags are moved for you between hotels. So whether you prefer “King of the Mountains” or the more relaxed approach, there’s a holiday idea for you.

Where to go?

UK

The UK is one of the best places in the world to see by bike, despite the weather! It is small in comparison to many countries so you can see plenty in a week and its remarkably varied landscapes mean that the view is constantly changing. England has its picture postcard villages, lush countryside and historic cities. Scotland offers solitude and awe-inspiring scenery. In Wales you can cycle through magnificent forests and tackle strenuous climbs. And you will find Northern Ireland, a charming and hospitable country with views to take your breath away. What better way to explore than by bike?

Europe

The French love cycling and their uncrowded country roads are a real joy for cyclists. You can choose from a variety of packaged holidays which allow you to take in the beautiful countryside as you wend your way from hotel to hotel. For the more energetic, there are packages offering the unforgettable experience of cycling the Tour de France route, or at least parts of it! A little further a field, Italy is another beautiful destination, with great weather and fantastic scenery. And all that exercise means no feelings of guilt when you tuck into the delicious Italian cuisine on offer! You’ll also find inspiring holidays in Spain, Croatia, Portugal and Greece to name just a few.

And Beyond

Explore Lord of the Rings country in breath-taking New Zealand; swing to the rhythm and enjoy the classic cars in Cuba; experience the world’s longest downhill ride in Tibet or try out the other Lake District, in Chile and Argentina! The world really is your oyster when it comes to cycling holidays.
