Relaxation and fun as well as education and challenge.....

The focus of a culture holiday could be opera, ballet, archaeology, history, architecture, music festivals, theatre, art or even pilgrimages. Wherever your interest lies, on an organised culture activity holiday, you will be travelling with like-minded individuals and will usually have experts on hand to enrich the experience. A culture holiday can offer relaxation and fun as well as education and challenge. Whether you are looking for a weekend break or a longer stay; if you want to stay close to home or travel further afield, there are holiday ideas to suit all tastes.

Where to go?

UK

The UK offers a wealth of cultural opportunities and where better to start than the capital city. In London you can experience great architecture, the finest art galleries and museums, and theatres and concert venues to rival the best in the world. In summer, you can enjoy live concerts and plays in Regents and Hyde Park.

For an altogether different experience, Orkney is world famous for its spectacular archaeology with well over a thousand known archaeological sites. An area of West Mainland has been designated a World Heritage Site because of its major 5,000 year-old Neolithic sites.

Europe

Opera can be prohibitively expensive in Western Europe. However, in some countries like the Czech Republic, it can be enjoyed by anyone. Prague has 3 spectacular venues for opera – The State Opera, The Estates Theatre and the National Theatre.

St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, often referred to as the Venice of the North or the Paris of the East. Despite being only 300 years old, the former capital is rich in history and this has been preserved in the 50 + museums around the city. As well as enjoying its history, you can also experience its great art collections and architecture and visit the opera or the ballet.

And Beyond

Often described as the archaeological jewel in the Middle East, Jordan is home to some fantastic archaeological sites like Petra. This region has always offered the best passable route between the Phoenician ports and the great cities to the north and Arabia to the south. Control over trade brought great wealth to those who lived here and Petra is a lasting monument to this period of history.
